About

I am very much an amateur, although an enthusiastic amateur, of the natural world. I have a really wide base of interests, from wandering through the wonderful landscapes of Britain (and hopefully logging a few Geocaches along the way), to visiting botanical gardens and trying to understand the ways of plants.

These interests don't just stop when the sun goes down either. I enjoy  walking during the evening and camping, but when I'm too puffed out for any of the outdoors stuff, I'm also happy being an armchair naturalist. Books are probably my biggest hobby and I've gleaned most of what little I know of this world from them. I also like watching documentaries on the natural world and like to read along the series with the accompanying book! I most recently did this with The Frozen Planet, for which I read the chapter that corresponds with the episode and I also studied the Frozen Planet short module with the Open University!

I'd like to use this blog to just jot down my thoughts, along with posting images of the natural world (plants / animals) with my best guess for identification. I'm always happy to hear if I'm wrong with an identification. Most of what I write will be about nature from what you can see from your bedroom window to the whole of the UK, but sometimes I'll reach even further than that and write about things I find interesting in the wider world. This blog is mainly my way of documenting my activities in nature and as a way of trying to remember the names of things I've seen.

A bit of a disclaimer here: Not every photo taken of a subject will be wild. Sometimes there will be plant photos taken in a garden and such like. Unfortunately I don't have the time or resources to find everything in its natural home. The photos are there to, hopefully, assist you (and me) with identification.

If you have any ideas for the blog or have spotted any errors that I've made - please do let me know.

Thanks for visiting and I hope that you enjoy my blog!
